Beautrition for the Soul

Have you ever heard of Brene Brown? If not, I suggest you check her out at She is Oprah’s latest discovery and the Ted Talk sensation. Why? Shame.

Shame is something we start to carry within us from an early age. “You shouldn’t have taken an extra cookie” “Did you break that vase?” “Your sister is good at math..why do you have such problems with it?” Parents, Teachers, Siblings and Friends mean well, but you’ve heard the comments that cut like a knife, and sadly, stay with you for the long haul. They create a new story in our heads, like “I’m not good at things like my sister” or worse, “I’m not good enough” period. The thing is, that’s a lie.

So Brene interviewed hundreds if not thousands of patients seeking counseling and discovered shame was the gremlin behind most dysfunction. I’m sure most of us realize that the reason for the shame is almost always NOT your fault, especially when you’re a child. And even if you exhibit bad behavior, isn’t that only human? Per Brene, gremlins must be exposed to the light to heal. So take whatever story is holding you back today, and put it out in the light. Decide it’s not you fault. Then, decide that it’s not serving you anymore. Then, flush it. Then, replace it. Whenever you purge something negative, you MUST replace it with something new that is functional or supportive. So say, “I am enough, just the way I am”. “I love myself, I love my life”. And say it proud. Say it dozens of times per day.

And let the lie of Shame lay there to die.. where it belongs…

EVERYone needs celeb-esque skin!

Derm RF - Rodan + Fields

On February 24, Hollywood’s A-list actors will be walking the red carpet as they arrive for the 85th Academy Awards. Their glam looks may appear effortless, but preparation for those up close, HD-broadcasted interviews starts weeks in advance. Debating between which designer dress to wear may be a decision celebrities can leave to the last minute, but making sure their skin looks picture-perfect is a process started well before the big event.

It’s no secret that celebs often go to extremes in an effort to rock the red carpet. From peels to lasers to microdermabrasion, they’re no strangers to big procedures before events. But these treatments require visits to the dermatologist’s office and come with a huge skinpact—they’re expensive, sometimes painful and often have considerable recovery time.

2nd Chances

I wanted to tell my followers, even if there’s only a few (:)) a story today: I went to grad school in LA at Pepperdine University.  I got my MBA in ’95, and at the time, was dating a record producer.  We went to a party at the late great John Lee Hooker’s house (the Blues singer) and I met John Paul DeJoria there.  If you don’t know who that is, look at the pic above!  He is the Founder of Paul Mitchell haircare, and Patron Tequila more lately.

He told me his Assistant was leaving to have a baby after 11 years with him; and he wanted me to consider taking the job.  I told him I was pretty far down the road on taking an investment banking job; so the next day I got a huge box of PM products at work with his card in it.  I interviewed with his Ass’t Jamie that week.  She said she spent 90% of her time on the phone and managing his schedule.  Translation: she was his in short, I passed on the job.  At the time, Paul Mitchell was probably a $200-300 million company.

Fast forward to today, he is worth $4.2 billion, is on the Forbes 400 list and all because he grew 2 megabrands:  Paul Mitchell Haircare and Patron Tequila.  Here’s my point:  big brands are big business, not just in the US but globally.  SO when I heard about the Proactiv Dr’s launching a new brand, I joined right away.  I got it.  I’m now looking for others who will get it.  If that’s you, by God (ok, that sounded like my Grandad), then message or email me..  If that’s not you, tell someone and have them message or email me.  This is one of those moment’s in time…so take advantage..!
